WHen I try to install DameWare Mini Remote Control 9.0, I get "there is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of teh setup did not finish as expected." I checked teh app log and get :

I tried loading version 10 qand get the same thing. Any ideas?
All,
I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and tried to install DW9. The installation goes all the way through until it seems to start modifying registry keys. It throws an error that "There is a problem with the Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run."
I've installed every vc++ redistributable known 2005,2008,2010,2012, and I've installed .net 2, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 - 3 - 4.5 is installed via Programs and Features. I've also installed various versions of DirectX just to see if it had something to do with that and no-go. I've got full admin rights on this box, and another person that I work with is having the same problem. The users that upgraded from Windows 8.0 to 8.1 are not having an issue, so it looks like Windows 8.0 may have something that 8.1 doesn't have? What in the world is it??
I believe we have 32-bit, but I'm not sure if there's a separate 64-bit version. The 32-bit has installed on every 64-bit OS in the office except this one.
Any ideas for me to look at? Error logs don't show me anything. It doesn't even show the application that it's 'required' to run and cannot find/launch:

Thank you!!
We recently moved Domains.. And in doing so I had to change my profile. So I decided reinstall my Dameware Mini Remote. Out
of 60 Users 3 are now Requesting permission to log onto their computer? I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling the Dameware Client on those computers to no avail? Could someone help me? I'm the IT Systems Administrator and one of my duties, if requested by Management, is to shadow users without their knowledge and with it requesting access that defeats the purpose.
Thank you

I am trying to figure out what the authentication requirements are to use dameware across multiple domains.
I am in Domain1.com and I need to be able to support Domain2.com, but I have to create an account in Domain2.com to be able to support these users.
I want to be able to use my Domain1.com account to manage all users in Domain2.com. I have made my account part of Domain2.com 's built in administrators group but still no luck.
Help please!
Hi there,
When I want to remotely install Dameware NT utilities (version 7.5.9.1) on a PC running Windows7 or server running Windows2008 and the windows firewall,is active, it just won't work.
I don't even 'see' the machine in the left hand pane of the interafe.
Note : I can't ping the machine either.
As soon as I switch of Windows' firewall everything works fine (ping=OK, install=OK) , but this is not the initial setting of the firewall.
Same goes when Dameware is already installed but Windows firewall was activated afterwards for some reason : no Dameware, no ping.
What rules or ports do I need to create or open to be able to install Dameware without switching off the firewall ?
Thx.
Bart
Hello NG,
I come from this site http://forums.dameware.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3065 , which resulted in opening a support case.
Our systems experience lots of the following error entries in Windows event viewer, application log:
##################################################################
Error:
DameWare Mini Remote Control
No Link-Local or Site-Local Cloud Available (Local).
System Error: 0
System Message: Der Vorgang wurde erfolgreich beendet.
(srv 64 bit)
##################################################################
We want to get rid of the messages. Can you help?
Our Dameware version is 7.5.9.0, we run Windows 7 64bit Ultimate SP1 fully patched. Our systems have IPv6 disabled in properties of the NIC configurations.
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards,
Bob
I have Dameware 7.5.6.1 32 bit running on 64bit Windows 7 and the remote clients are all 64bit Windows 7 machines.
It seems when I login to some of our remote computers I get an Smart Card Authentication failed error:
"System error: -2146435069, Remote Message: System Error: -2146435069. System message: the supplied handle was invalid."
The corresponding Windows Application logs show: "System error 10014, event id 110."
It seems to happen when I try to use the miniremote to remote into some computers, not all remote clients. It seems to happen after a sudden disconnect or reboot of the remote machine. It doesn't matter where I do it, so it not computer/profile specific. And I can get co-workers to login to the same remote system w/o issue, so it seems to be my issue.
I can use dameware NT utilities to access all the tools for the respective computer but a soon as I try to use MiniRemote and try to login I get the error. I can use other remote desktop apps and windows RDP w/ smart card authentication w/o errors.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program on my pc, the service and drivers on the remote PC w/ Dameware software. I've tried manually adding and removing the conents %windir%\dwrcs folder on the remote system w/o issue.
Damware sees my smart card as a JavaCard #2 if that helps.
Hello,
I am setting up Dameware 10 Remote Control Tool on a few systems and am having an issue getting connected to remote systems using my CAC. We have both admin and regular certs on the CAC but will be using the admin cert to do the remote control assistance.
Ill give you a rundown of what I am doing:
Right click DameWare Mini Remote Control > Run as (choose my admin Cert from CAC)
Fill in all information needed (Select Smart Card logon and fill in PIN)
Click connect and get error, after a few moments of waiting
Error:
DameWare Mini Remote Control
Smart Card Logon Failed (5.2).
System Error: 1326
System Message: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.
After inspecting the security logs on the client system I see that the error is because its attempting to use my regular user account, not my admin account. Even tho we are running the MRC tool using admin cert credentials.
Security Logs on client system shows the attempted connection and failure:

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.
The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.
The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).
The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.
The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.
The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.
I am a local admin on remote system and can confirm this with username and password, so we know the authentication is there. For some reason it keeps defaulting back to the regular user cert.
Any thoughts on it?
I have a user laptop with a strange issue. Noticed in Event Viewer, that one particular error pops up very frequently. This error occurs roughly every 3 minutes.

This is on a newly imagined laptop.
Any insight on what could be causing this or how I can prevent this from happening?
We have recently started using Dameware and Mini Remote. When I use Mini Remote to connect to a users pc I'm finding that it changes their desktop display settings. These changes are tied to mini remote because they were reported within a minute of me connecting to their pc for the first time. And, it was reported by users in the order in which I connected to their pc's. One right after the other. I'm aware of two specific changes: the color scheme changes (minor in the big picture but it's the little things that keep them happy), the task bar for example was a deep blue now it's a muted gray color. The biggest complaint is that the windows preview when you mouse over an application icon in the task bar changes from window previews to a list. Previously, if you had multiple word documents open and had it set to not combined icons it would show one Word icon in the task bar. If you would mouse over the Word icon it would pop up little windows for each document you had open and as you mouse over each window preview it would temporarily display that document maximized on the screen. Now, it only pops up a list, that's in, no interactive preview or anything.
With my previous employer I used mini remote extensively and did not see this happen. Please help, my name is mud with several users because of this.
Your insight and expertise is appreciated.

I tried to connect with MRC 9 and got the below error. I tried again on 11 and got the same thing. Another PC with MRC is having the same issue. Other remote PCs are fine. I removed the remote service and the issue persists. Any ideas?
Please try one of the other authentication types or please check the remote machine's authentication settings.
Disconnecting.

Is there a planned update for the mirror driver included with the v12.0.3.0 DameWare Mini Remote Control Service. Not only does it no display correctly in Windows 10 Device Manager, the driver date is over 8 years old. There is also some concern that it is causing issues with displaylink connected displays using HumanScale USB 3.0 docking stations.
Windows default is to only show notifications from applications in the system tray. We wish to have the MRC icon always visible, so users can right-click on it and connect to the console of the helpdesk member talking to them. Many times it's easier than trying to figure out their computer's name or IP.
There's a setting (and a GPO) to show all the icons of the system tray, but there's too many useless icons to show them all. It get worst when a user hooks up their laptop to a projector; with the small resolution of the display (most projectors resolution is 1024x768) and the "show all icons" settings enabled, there's hardly enough space in the task bar for two or three applications at the same time.
Users can customize which icons are to be always displayed, but is there a way to automate the process for all users?

I'm unable to launch my DMRC console, I can't get past the login. I get an "Internal server error." message. However, I'm able to get into the Dameware Server Administration Console without a hitch.
I've restarted the Dameware Server service and the whole server and it changed nothing, except the first time I tried to log in I got "SOAP parsing error occured. It might be due to incompatible versions of the Server and Console." as the error message and Internal server error afterwards.
Here's the service log entry that appears on each unsuccessful login (server host is in french, so some messages are translated):
