Win 8.1 and Dameware v9 Installation problems

$

All,

I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and tried to install DW9. The installation goes all the way through until it seems to start modifying registry keys. It throws an error that "There is a problem with the Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run."

I've installed every vc++ redistributable known 2005,2008,2010,2012, and I've installed .net 2, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 - 3 - 4.5 is installed via Programs and Features. I've also installed various versions of DirectX just to see if it had something to do with that and no-go. I've got full admin rights on this box, and another person that I work with is having the same problem. The users that upgraded from Windows 8.0 to 8.1 are not having an issue, so it looks like Windows 8.0 may have something that 8.1 doesn't have? What in the world is it??

I believe we have 32-bit, but I'm not sure if there's a separate 64-bit version. The 32-bit has installed on every 64-bit OS in the office except this one.

Any ideas for me to look at? Error logs don't show me anything. It doesn't even show the application that it's 'required' to run and cannot find/launch:

Remote CAC Help

Hello,

I am setting up Dameware 12 Remote Control Tool on a few systems and am having an issue, getting connected to remote systems using my CAC.  We have, both admin and regular certs on the CAC but will be using the admin cert to do the remote control assistance.

I will give you a rundown of what I am doing:

Right click DameWare Mini Remote Control > Run as different user (choose my admin Cert from CAC)

Fill in all information needed (Select Smart Card logon and fill in PIN)

Click connect and get error, after a few moments of waiting

Error:

DameWare Mini Remote Control

Smart Card Logon Failed (5.2).

System Error: 1326

System Message: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

After inspecting the security logs on the client system I believe that the error is because its attempting to use my regular user account, not my admin account. Even tho we are running the MRC tool using admin cert credentials.

I am a local admin on remote system and can confirm this with username and password, so we know the authentication is there.  For some reason it keeps defaulting back to the regular user cert.

Any thoughts on it?

Hello,

I am setting up Dameware 10 Remote Control Tool on a few systems and am having an issue getting connected to remote systems using my CAC.  We have both admin and regular certs on the CAC but will be using the admin cert to do the remote control assistance.

Ill give you a rundown of what I am doing:

Fill in all information needed (Select Smart Card logon and fill in PIN)

Click connect and get error, after a few moments of waiting

Error:

System Message: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

After inspecting the security logs on the client system I see that the error is because its attempting to use my regular user account, not my admin account. Even tho we are running the MRC tool using admin cert credentials.

Security Logs on client system shows the attempted connection and failure:

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.

  - Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.

  - Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.

  - Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

I am a local admin on remote system and can confirm this with username and password, so we know the authentication is there.  For some reason it keeps defaulting back to the regular user cert.

Any thoughts on it?

Dameware NT utilities blocked by firewall ?

$

Hi there,

When I want to remotely install Dameware NT utilities (version 7.5.9.1) on a PC running Windows7 or server running Windows2008 and the windows firewall,is active, it just won't work.

I don't even 'see' the machine in the left hand pane of the interafe.

Note : I can't ping the machine either.

As soon as I switch of Windows' firewall everything works fine (ping=OK, install=OK) , but this is not the initial setting of the firewall.

Same goes when Dameware is already installed but Windows firewall was activated afterwards for some reason : no Dameware, no ping.

What rules or ports do I need to create or open to be able to install Dameware without switching off the firewall ?

Thx.

Bart

Dameware remote desktop problems...

I'm already use Dameware mini control software

Can I upgrade software to support all things:

1. Create users permission meaning users1 can connect only to groupA of computers

2. Bypass firewall while connecting

3. Set/write log or history file on server

4. Set request permission from client to access his pc

Meaning all users of dameware will have to get the client approve before they can control /view his pic

Even if he administrator of the domain

Still need to get approve for connection

Cause now if i'm admin of the network i can enter his computer without his approve.

also, I want to be able to set this option form server not to go to each client and set this option.

Thanks

Dameware Mini Remote Control "Encrypted Windows Logon"

$

I'm trying to find out if the "Encrypted Windows Logon" is using Kerberos as the underlying protocol. I'm assuming the "NT Challenge/Response" is using NTLM but it would be great to know if that is the case for sure.

Second part of the question would be if there is a way to turn on Pass-Through authentication for "Encrypted Windows Logon". It grays out the check box for "Use Current Logon Credentials" when I choose it.

MRC Password Update

SO we have been using Dameware Mini Remote Control for a couple months now on our fleet of about 400 PCs. My password has since then expired. Now I have to go back through and change my password on ALL of these computers one at a time in MRC. Is there not a way to mass update them???

And every computer I add I have to re-enter the userid, password, domain, and secret key. Is there not a way to use one on all machines since I use the same stuff on every single machine?

How to attach dameware mrc 9 window to toolbar so I can move it on my screen?

$
0
0

Sometime when connecting to high resolution clients, my dameware mrc does not let me move the window on my screen.  I am connected to two clients right now for example.  One is at 1024x768.  The dameware "window" has a menu bar (File, Send, Monitor...) and buttons, and the display of this remote machine is integrated within this window.  I can minimize, maximize, close or drag this window around no problem.

The other machine I am connected to is 1920x1080.  The view of this remote machine is separated from the dameware toolbar in the top middle of my screen.  The window border around the view of the remote machine is so thin that there is nothing to grab ahold of to move this window around my screens.  I can only really awkwardly resize it to move it to another monitor or another place on my screen.  How could I get the view of this remote machine attached with the menu bar and tool bar, like the other machine?  There's no way to disconnect either.  Well one would have to close it from the taskbar.  If you click the little X in the top anchored, centered toolbar that is detached from the remote PC view, that toolbar goes away permanently . unless you close dameware and reopen it.

I am using MRC 9.0

How to force Windows to always show MRC icon in the system tray

$
0
0

Windows default is to only show notifications from applications in the system tray. We wish to have the MRC icon always visible, so users can right-click on it and connect to the console of the helpdesk member talking to them. Many times it's easier than trying to figure out their computer's name or IP.

There's a setting (and a GPO) to show all the icons of the system tray, but there's too many useless icons to show them all. It get worst when a user hooks up their laptop to a projector; with the small resolution of the display (most projectors resolution is 1024x768) and the "show all icons" settings enabled, there's hardly enough space in the task bar for two or three applications at the same time.

Users can customize which icons are to be always displayed, but is there a way to automate the process for all users?

DWMRC Connect from commandline to Remote Host

$

We have DWMRC install in central admin mode and see there is a dwrcc://<hostname> command you can use to quick launch a host, but it only works with the WebHelpdesk module or can this be used to integrate with any helpdesk? Also is there any way to use the Command Line Functionality to connect to a host that is listed under the Remote Host List? if I try to specify a host it just bombs out that it can't connect

dwrcc.exe -m:somehost -bh:central-server01 -bpn:6133 -bu:mycentralid -bps:mycentralpassword

It appears it's just trying to connect to the host not the host that's listed under the Remote Host List via the Central Server.

Thanks in Advance!

Mirror Driver in DameWare Mini Remote Control is outdated

Is there a planned update for the mirror driver included with the v12.0.3.0 DameWare Mini Remote Control Service. Not only does it no display correctly in Windows 10 Device Manager, the driver date is over 8 years old. There is also some concern that it is causing issues with displaylink connected displays using HumanScale USB 3.0 docking stations.

remote to workstations on a different domain

$

Hi folks,

(although we've been using MRC for ages, we need to get smarter so advice is welcomed!)

The deal is that most of our customers are on the same domain as us. Brill... no issues!

However, a significant group of our customers are on other domains, and I've not found a great way yet to remote onto them.  We need to remote onto end user's workstation when they need support.  I've tried emailing them a link to the internet session (File>Invite User to join remote session), but it's a bit clunky - the user has to tell me their email address, then I have to type it into the to: field, then they have to wait for the email, open it up, etc.etc..  Is there a quicker way to invite a user to join? In the past, I've used a system of sharing a PIN number, although I can't recall whether that was using MRC or another product... !
