Dameware 10 Mini Remote Control Tool - Admin Cert on CAC

$

Hello,

I am setting up Dameware 10 Remote Control Tool on a few systems and am having an issue getting connected to remote systems using my CAC.  We have both admin and regular certs on the CAC but will be using the admin cert to do the remote control assistance.

Ill give you a rundown of what I am doing:

Right click DameWare Mini Remote Control > Run as (choose my admin Cert from CAC)

Fill in all information needed (Select Smart Card logon and fill in PIN)

Click connect and get error, after a few moments of waiting

Error:

DameWare Mini Remote Control

Smart Card Logon Failed (5.2).

System Error: 1326

System Message: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

After inspecting the security logs on the client system I see that the error is because its attempting to use my regular user account, not my admin account. Even tho we are running the MRC tool using admin cert credentials.

Security Logs on client system shows the attempted connection and failure:

An account failed to log on.

Subject:

  Security ID: SYSTEM

  Account Name: %COMPUTERNAME%$

  Account Domain: %DOMAIN%

  Logon ID: 0x3e7

Logon Type: 3

Account For Which Logon Failed:

  Security ID: NULL SID

  Account Name: %REMOVEDINFO%

  Account Domain:

Failure Information:

Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password.

  Status: 0xc000006d

  Sub Status: 0xc0000064

Process Information:

  Caller Process ID: 0x380

  Caller Process Name: C:\Windows\dwrcs\DWRCS.exe

Network Information:

  Workstation Name: %Computername%

  Source Network Address: -

  Source Port: -

Detailed Authentication Information:

  Logon Process: DWMRC3

  Authentication Package: Kerberos

  Transited Services: -

  Package Name (NTLM only): -

  Key Length: 0

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.

  - Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.

  - Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.

  - Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

I am a local admin on remote system and can confirm this with username and password, so we know the authentication is there.  For some reason it keeps defaulting back to the regular user cert.

Any thoughts on it?

Dameware MRC V 9.0 64 Bit And Windows Server 2012

Good Afternoon,

I recently tried installing the Dameware Mini Remote driver onto a Windows Server 2012 machine and it continues to report back "The Operating System has reported that a reboot of the remote machine is required to complete the Mirror Driver installation/update".  Once you click ok, it lets you in.  But, everytime you remote in with Dameware, it pops up this message.  The system has been rebooted multiple times and tried installing the driver multiple ways with no success.  How do I get around this?  Thanks

My Dameware MiniRemote 11.1 is not installing

When I run the DameWareMRC32-St-v11.1.exe or DameWareMRC64-St-v11.1.exe,  It appears to "unpack the binaries" then just quits.

I had it installed and working before the holidays. When I returned I ran a PC cleaner. Afterwards, Dameware claimed that the licence had expired. I uninstalled the software at the request of IT and attempted to re-install with the results above. Any Ideas??

The PC cleaner may or may not have had any influence in the situation. I did not run DWMRCS before the cleaner. So, I don't know if it worked directly before. I mention it only to provide a clear picture of the situation.

Dameware centralized server set up and available to be accessed - 2 questions

1) How do I apply my own certificate to the server rather than use the unsecured cert?
2) How do I load a clients AD environment into the centralized server for remote access. Do I just need one MRC client service on a workstation or server in the client's environment with admin credentials? Or do I need to load a specific server product there and hook it in through the proxy?

MSI switches for DMRC service

We have several users that will need to remote into PCs, but will not be local administrators on the PCs.  We were able to get Dameware set up to a point where as long as the service was installed, the user could Dameware in and the person at the other end would have to allow the connection.  After looking around on the site, I realized that I could create a .msi file to install the service on a PC.  Well I have gotten a .msi file created to install the Dameware Mini Remote Control Service on a PC, but my question is, are there any switches I can use to deploy via cmd line or via SCCM package?  Most preferably would be to be able to install the service silently.  Let me know if this is possible!  Thanks in advance!

Remote Service Removal command line

Is there a command line argument to remove the DameWare service from a remote PC? As a policy we only have the DameWare MRC agent service installed when its being used, however, we have tons of machines out there. I could create a simple script to run through a list of machine names and remove the agent from each...  if it could be called from the command line.

Serial port failure after Dameware disconnect.

We use Dameware 10.0.0.372 on Windows 7 PCs for remote support of Radio Broadcasting PCs.

These PCs use the Serial comm port for control of Audio DSP Engines.

We are finding the at some sites the serial port connection is lost 30-60 seconds after a Dameware session has disconnected.

Does Dameware interact with the target PC serial ports in any way?

Cheers

VNC connection pegs CPU to 100%

Hi,

Every time I initiate a VNC connection to a Mac or Windows host, the CPU on my local machine goes to 100% and stays there until I disconnect. If I use RealVNC to connect to those machines however, CPU has little spikes but never 100% and never pegged. Using Dameware 9.0.1.247 64 bit, Windows 7 Pro x64. Windows is running as a Boot Camp VM in VMWare Fusion.

Any insight?

Dameware Mini Remote Control - Citrix Window Issues

Hi guys, I'm trialling Dameware Mini Remote Control at the moment and am having a very annoying problem and looking for some advice or a solution.

I am looking to support remote computers within the network with this tool.

Currently, our machines are running Windows 7 Pro SP1.

We are also using Citrix Receiver to load up 2x external hosted applications. These applications function as normal separate windows.

But..when i connect to a computer, the 2 citrix applications combine together within a Window and apply a 'default looking' Windows background and the only way to get out of this is to close the full sized window which will disconnect the session and then open the apps up again.

I'm sure this is a setting i am not able to find somewhere.

Thanks for your time

Disable Autosave but remember last host

Hi!

I read at the old forums about this issue with Dameware(dwrcc) remote connections autosave. Here is the link: dameware.com • View topic - Disable Autosave but remember last host

I have atleast one solution for this. What I did was (WIN7):

1. Created Powershell script to e.g. C:\temp which removes this file "C:\users\Yourusername\AppData\Roaming\DameWare Development\MRCCv2.db" and these registry entries "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DameWare Development\Mini Remote Control\Settings\Reconnect*" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DameWare Development\Mini Remote Control\Settings\Action list".

2. Then Created new Task with Windows Task Scheduler which runs this powershell script every day e.g. at 16.00 just before I leave at work.

This way I made Dameware remember all the connections just for one day at the time.

If you have questions, leave me a message!

MRC v11: Unable to log in to console, Internal server error.

I'm unable to launch my DMRC console, I can't get past the login. I get an "Internal server error." message. However, I'm able to get into the Dameware Server Administration Console without a hitch.

I've restarted the Dameware Server service and the whole server and it changed nothing, except the first time I tried to log in I got "SOAP parsing error occured. It might be due to incompatible versions of the Server and Console." as the error message and Internal server error afterwards.

Here's the service log entry that appears on each unsuccessful login (server host is in french, so some messages are translated):

Pushing settings out as easy as importing registry keys?

$

We just rolled out Dameware 11 (we were on 9 before).  This is standalone, not the centralized server model yet.  I noticed even though I used the MSI builder and configured the settings, they didn't seem to apply to everyone.  For example we have just started testing removing "Domain Admins" from our IT support people and in order to still be able to use Dameware we had to push out settings for only allow these specific groups to connect to not only DOMAIN\Domain Admins, but also DOMAIN\Information Technology.  At least one person's dameware was asking them for permission and even when granted we couldn't take control (view only).  A few others we could not connect at all with our windows credentials unless I ran MMC as a domain admin, managed that particular computer and put Information Technology in as a local admin.

So I did some digging with Regshot and found all the settings seem to be saved at HKLM\Software\DameWare Development\Mini Remote Control Service.  So I got all the settings how I want them, tested them and then exported this branch in regedit.  I imported it into Dell Desktop Authority so these registry keys are imported to the PC if the dwmrc.exe file version is equal to 11.0 or greater.  So far it seems to work.  Are there any caveats to doing this?  Again it seems to be working fine but I wanted to post it out there just as an FYI.

Dameware and GLPI

Hi everybody....we are using DamerWare Remote Control v.9 and the Help- Desk/ Assesment Center GLPI...when i tried to setup a link like its written in this blog Dameware / Web Help Desk Integration, everything works fine, instead of filling out the Hostname. In the Assesment Center i got the Link dwrcc://[ip] (which is the argument for getting out the IP of the Client), so that i have a line under the assest like this: dwrcc://192.168.195.15. When i now click on the link Dameware starts with the Arguments filled out i told Dameware (Password, and Username). I could not use the argument -m because the IP is only known in GLPI....so is there a possibility to get the IP fom the Link dwrcc://192.168.195.15 into the hostname field from Dameware???

Why does Dameware MRC v9.0.1 get stuck at the initializing desktop screen when trying to connect to certain computers? Even after uninstalling the service and reinstalling the issue continues, there is no firewall turned on for the machines with this issu

This issue started about a month ago with a group of machines. There is no apparent link to these machines which did not have the issue prior. I have read many forums and discussions relating to a firewall issue, but there is no firewall turned on internally. There are other machines on the same switches which work without issues, as well as other states and building which have no issues. We have tried to uninstall the software and service, remove all related folders,  and reinstall everything fresh with the same issue following.

When we encounter this issue on a machine, we use the remove service feature in Dameware, then close the application and open again and try to connect. We are then prompted to reinstall the service, which will then allow us to connect, and will continue working correctly until the machine is restarted. This does not fix the problem, and each time we must do the same steps to connect to the problem machines.

The service is currently set to automatic on all machines. When we tried to set it to manual, we could connect but would have to install or start the service first, which does not work well. When we set it to delayed start, we are able to connect after 2 few minutes after reboot. we have also tried to register the service again and it did not help.

When looking in the event logs for the problem machines, the following data shows in the failure entry.

"

Error:

DameWare Mini Remote Control

No Link-Local or Site-Local Cloud Available (Local).

System Error: 10091

System Message: WSAStartup cannot function at this time because the underlying system it uses to provide network services is currently unavailable.

(srv 64 bit)

"

Any help on why this is happening or what could be the cause would be greatly appreciated.

Dameware Mini Remote Control - Question

Can the Mini Remote software be configured so that a specific Computer Name access only specific other computers within the LAN?

Our colleague is using MRC for spying purpose. What is he doing?

There's a lots of communication on 49155 port, but I cant guess what is he doing. I cant find started mrc service on machines that he is communicating with. So what is he doing. Is it possible that he is spying that users. Like I said, there is tons of packets on 49155 tcp port.

How to force Windows to always show MRC icon in the system tray

$

0

Windows default is to only show notifications from applications in the system tray. We wish to have the MRC icon always visible, so users can right-click on it and connect to the console of the helpdesk member talking to them. Many times it's easier than trying to figure out their computer's name or IP.

There's a setting (and a GPO) to show all the icons of the system tray, but there's too many useless icons to show them all. It get worst when a user hooks up their laptop to a projector; with the small resolution of the display (most projectors resolution is 1024x768) and the "show all icons" settings enabled, there's hardly enough space in the task bar for two or three applications at the same time.

Users can customize which icons are to be always displayed, but is there a way to automate the process for all users?

Hello NG,

I come from this site http://forums.dameware.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3065 , which resulted in opening a support case.

Our systems experience lots of the following error entries in Windows event viewer, application log:

##################################################################
Error:
DameWare Mini Remote Control
No Link-Local or Site-Local Cloud Available (Local).

System Error: 0
System Message: Der Vorgang wurde erfolgreich beendet.

(srv 64 bit)
##################################################################

We want to get rid of the messages. Can you help?

Our Dameware version is 7.5.9.0, we run Windows 7 64bit Ultimate SP1 fully patched. Our systems have IPv6 disabled in properties of the NIC configurations.

Thanks in advance!

Best Regards,

Bob
