VNC connection pegs CPU to 100%

$

Hi,

Every time I initiate a VNC connection to a Mac or Windows host, the CPU on my local machine goes to 100% and stays there until I disconnect. If I use RealVNC to connect to those machines however, CPU has little spikes but never 100% and never pegged. Using Dameware 9.0.1.247 64 bit, Windows 7 Pro x64. Windows is running as a Boot Camp VM in VMWare Fusion.

Any insight?

Dameware MRC non-admin access error message

Hello,

We use dameware MRC v9 and I'm trying to setup non-admin access to one of our machines.

Local Admins can remote in fine to this machine, but when a non-admin (They're power users) try to it still asks for permission.

I have unticked the Permission required for these accounts types and the Permissions Required option is not enabled. When I disabled the Permissions required for these account types I got this error message:

"Unable to run without an authentication method (proprietary challenge/response) set that will work when the service was started as an application"

Any suggestions?

Dameware 10 Mini Remote Control Tool - Admin Cert on CAC

Hello,

I am setting up Dameware 10 Remote Control Tool on a few systems and am having an issue getting connected to remote systems using my CAC.  We have both admin and regular certs on the CAC but will be using the admin cert to do the remote control assistance.

Ill give you a rundown of what I am doing:

Right click DameWare Mini Remote Control > Run as (choose my admin Cert from CAC)

Fill in all information needed (Select Smart Card logon and fill in PIN)

Click connect and get error, after a few moments of waiting

Error:

DameWare Mini Remote Control

Smart Card Logon Failed (5.2).

System Error: 1326

System Message: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.

After inspecting the security logs on the client system I see that the error is because its attempting to use my regular user account, not my admin account. Even tho we are running the MRC tool using admin cert credentials.

Security Logs on client system shows the attempted connection and failure:

An account failed to log on.

Subject:

  Security ID: SYSTEM

  Account Name: %COMPUTERNAME%$

  Account Domain: %DOMAIN%

  Logon ID: 0x3e7

Logon Type: 3

Account For Which Logon Failed:

  Security ID: NULL SID

  Account Name: %REMOVEDINFO%

  Account Domain:

Failure Information:

Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password.

  Status: 0xc000006d

  Sub Status: 0xc0000064

Detailed Authentication Information:

  Logon Process: DWMRC3

  Authentication Package: Kerberos

  Transited Services: -

  Package Name (NTLM only): -

  Key Length: 0

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.

  - Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.

  - Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.

  - Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

I am a local admin on remote system and can confirm this with username and password, so we know the authentication is there.  For some reason it keeps defaulting back to the regular user cert.

Any thoughts on it?

Mini Remote Control - Show Remote Cursor (Not working)

Hello!

I have an issue with the Remote option 'Show Remote Cursor' not working on many clients even though I have activated the setting under Default Host. It doesn't work even though I connect to new target PC's after the change of setting or modifying an existing client-setting.

I have changed the setting on the Host-PC to enable 'Show Remote Cursor' under Default Host. The Target PC's (Which I connect to) has Dameware Mini Remote Control Service installed.

Host PC- Mini Remote Control 12.0.4010.3

Target PC - Dameware Mini Remote Control Service 12.0.3.0

Client OS: Windows 7 x64 SP 1

"Permission Required" setting didn't require permission after reboot

I just had an interesting experience with a machine. When I first logged via the mini remote control, I was granted permission. During the course of our troubleshooting, the machine was rebooted. After I was told it was restarting, I began MRC Pinging the machine to have it automatically connect. Which it did. Without requiring permission from the user.

This is concerning.

...

My second thought was that maybe it began the connection before the login to windows was complete, and maybe this is how the Permission Required setting works, allowing me to start work with the user there and continue after a reboot if the user leaves.

So, is it true that if there is no one logged in, permission is not required?

If it is, it does present a security hole in that I could connect to any machine where permission *is* required before the user is logged in (using MRC Ping) and they'd not necessarily know I was there once they did log in.

I am trying to figure out what the authentication requirements are to use dameware across multiple domains.

I am in Domain1.com and I need to be able to support Domain2.com, but I have to create an account in Domain2.com to be able to support these users.

I want to be able to use my Domain1.com account to manage all users in Domain2.com. I have made my account part of Domain2.com 's built in administrators group but still no luck.

Help please!

MRC v11: Unable to log in to console, Internal server error.

I'm unable to launch my DMRC console, I can't get past the login. I get an "Internal server error." message. However, I'm able to get into the Dameware Server Administration Console without a hitch.

I've restarted the Dameware Server service and the whole server and it changed nothing, except the first time I tried to log in I got "SOAP parsing error occured. It might be due to incompatible versions of the Server and Console." as the error message and Internal server error afterwards.

Here's the service log entry that appears on each unsuccessful login (server host is in french, so some messages are translated):

Dameware MRC Connection from Outside Work Domain

Hi all,

First time MRC user here. Our company would like to use MRC so some designers can work remotely on the weekends. Stupid question, but do I ABSOLUTELY need to use a VPN to access the MRC Centralized Server? To my understanding, I don't see a need for MRC if I am forced to use a VPN into our domain. I would just use Windows RDC as a free solution.

File Activity and Directories for DWRCC

Can anyone tell me what the following directories are used for:

\Windows\dwrcs\Uploads\

\$User\AppData\Local\Temp\DWRCC Downloads\

Is the uploads folder where a file in placed when uploading to another host? Is the downloads folder where files are downloaded to from another host? I know Dameware has the SFT feature, but I am trying to figure where files may be located.

And can anyone list the default directories or behavior for where these files or artifacts would be if this is not the location of uploads and downloads?

NON-ADMIN USE OF MRC V11

$

I would like to request help/walk-through/guide to having non-admins use DameWare Mini Remote Control v11 without having someone on the remote end that needs to accept the incoming connection request. The non-admin users may granted Remote Desktop User rights but may not have local admin rights permanently. We have many Processor Engineers, amongst other areas and users, that require a way to remote into systems but cannot use RDP. Due to audit reasons we cannot add them as administrators.

FYI - I entered this as a feature request, but I am starting to think this should not be a request as it should all ready be part of the software functions.

I have already add the user/s to the Remote Desktop Users group on the remote PC's I am using to test.

The case I sited in the Discussion Title is closed but was opened end of August in 2013. At that time we had been using version 8 and we went a different route but it has come up again and I need to find a solution. Below you will find what I was asked to try by Solarwinds to get this working.

Try this settings for Non- Admin. But this requires permission of the remote machine.

- On the DMRC Remote Connect window Click on the Settings
- Under Properties, look for Install Options Tab
- Click on Configure button
- There you will see the Additional Settings Tab
- It will need to tick on Permission required then Ok

I made these changes well logged in as a administrator. I then went to my non-admin account for testing and I receive the following error:

"The remote machine reported the following error:

The remote system is currently at the Logon Desktop.

Your credentials do not allow for access at the current desktop state."

Next I gave my non-admin account admin rights to check if the settings actual transfer between accounts; they do not. I changed them and tried again (after removing the local admin rights) but still received the error message. So next I changed the following settings under my non-admin account with local admin rights.

Under Additional Settings tab:

    • checked Permission Required
    • unchecked On Disconnect Logoff

Under Access tab

    • unchecked All three boxes at the bottom

I logged off, removed the local admin rights, tried again; but still receive that same error message. If I am logged in to the remote PC as the user I do not receive the error message. Someone on the remote end still needs to accept the incoming connection request though.

So basically what I have going on is it only works if the user is logged in and the PC is not in a locked state. But not just that; someone on the remote end also has to accept the incoming connection request. I need to be able to have a non-admin account remote into the PC without requiring someone on the remote end. That user may be granted Remote Desktop User rights but may not be granted local admin rights.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Doing silent install of MRC 11.2 does not input license information

Hi.  I'm trying to do a silent install of MRC version 11.2.  The install is succeeding, but it is not passing along the license information.  Whenever I open MRC it pops up asking me to license it.  I am using code I found on this website, inputing my own information but using the same syntax:

fileName.exe /args "/qn APPDIR=\"C:\Program Files\DameWare programName\" reboot=reallysuppress SILENT=yes INSTALLSTANDALONE=1 SA_KEY=licenseKey SA_EMAIL=emailAddress SA_FIRST_NAME=firstName SA_LAST_NAME=lastName /L*V %temp%\Install.log"

Everything looks good, but I can't figure out why it won't take the license key.  Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Mini Remote causing desktop settings to change for user

$

We have recently started using Dameware and Mini Remote.  When I use  Mini Remote to connect to a users pc I'm finding that it changes their desktop display settings. These changes are tied to mini remote because they were reported within a minute of me connecting to their pc for the first time.  And, it was reported by users in the order in which I connected to their pc's.   One right after the other.   I'm aware of two specific changes:   the color scheme changes (minor in the big picture but it's the little things that keep them happy), the task bar for example was a deep blue now it's a muted gray color.    The biggest complaint is that the windows preview when you mouse over an application icon in the task bar changes from window previews to a list.   Previously, if you had multiple word documents open and had it set to not combined icons it would show one Word icon in the task bar.  If you would mouse over the Word icon it would pop up little windows for each document you had open and as you mouse over each window preview it would temporarily display that document maximized on the screen.  Now, it only pops up a list, that's in, no interactive preview or anything.

With my previous employer I used mini remote extensively and did not see this happen.  Please help, my name is mud with several users because of this.

Your insight and expertise is appreciated.

CTRL-ALT-DELETE doesn't work when I'm attached to a client's machine

When I'm using Dameware V10 to remote into a client's machine, it always starts with the following message "Configuring the remote system for first time use. This may take as much as two minutes. Please wait..."  It allows me to get to the client's machine but then the CTRL-ALT-DELETE function doesn't work and I can't log in. I've also tried to use the Send "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" option.  I've installed and re-installed the Dameware Software at least 3 times but it still has the same issue. What would be causing this problem? Thanks.

Dameware NT utilities blocked by firewall ?

$

Hi there,

When I want to remotely install Dameware NT utilities (version 7.5.9.1) on a PC running Windows7 or server running Windows2008 and the windows firewall,is active, it just won't work.

I don't even 'see' the machine in the left hand pane of the interafe.

Note : I can't ping the machine either.

As soon as I switch of Windows' firewall everything works fine (ping=OK, install=OK) , but this is not the initial setting of the firewall.

Same goes when Dameware is already installed but Windows firewall was activated afterwards for some reason : no Dameware, no ping.

What rules or ports do I need to create or open to be able to install Dameware without switching off the firewall ?

Thx.

Bart
